Currency control is a check of a monetary transaction, which is carried out by participants in foreign economic activity, for compliance with the currency legislation. The main foreign exchange transactions include:

  • cash settlements with non-residents of the Russian Federation in foreign currency and rubles
  • settlements between residents of the Russian Federation in foreign currency, with the exception of settlements through bank accounts opened abroad
  • transfers of residents of the Russian Federation in rubles to their own accounts or to the accounts of other residents of the Russian Federation opened abroad.
  • settlements between residents of the Russian Federation in rubles when transferring funds between accounts opened with banks abroad

Violation of the currency legislation by participants in foreign economic activity may entail administrative and criminal liability for officials and legal entities.
